Welcome to Bramble Birth
I am an experienced home birth midwife, caring for women and families in Berkshire and beyond. I provide care in your home throughout pregnancy, birth and new parenthood, tailored to meet the needs of your family.
I did my midwifery training at Lewisham Hospital in South-East London. The first birth I saw was a home birth and thereafter followed a personal passion for birth at home. I was lucky to see many physiological births early on in my training, in the wonderful birth centre, which was run by skillful and often formidable, senior midwives. I consistently sought out exposure to physiological birth during my training, which led me to work alongside a small team of independent midwives. This was my first taste of following families along the whole journey of pregnancy, birth and early parenting. This immediately made so much more sense than seeing a different midwife at every stage or even every appointment.
Upon qualification I worked at Chelsea and Westminster hospital where I consolidated my skills and met inspiring midwives, but still I yearned for the opportunity to make meaningful relationships with families. I applied for a job in Shetland, on the closing date, without much forethought, and eight weeks later found myself packing up life in London and relocating North.
I immediately loved the style of work and team of midwives in Shetland. I would do everything in one day; caring for women in labour, caring for women having miscarriages, taking the ferry to islands off the mainland for postnatal visits, and lots in-between. My husband and I lived in a remote location even by Shetland standards and I would sleep over in the maternity unit when I was on call. I spent my pregnancy working and living there and felt nurtured and protected by the colleagues and friends who cared for me antenatally. I wanted to be closer to home when my baby arrived. I gave birth at my parent’s house in Hampshire, lovingly supported by independent midwives.
We returned to Shetland but when my son was eight months old we decided we needed to be closer to family so moved South again, where I joined an NHS home birth team. I am currently based in West Berkshire. Over the past years I have worked in the NHS and independently, mainly supporting families planning home birth.
I have attended countless water births and many HBACs (home birth after caesarean). I currently work alongside two other experienced home birth midwives.
